Are you familiar with the basics of predictive modeling? Are you a technical manager or project leader who wants to understand the entire predictive analytics process? Would you like hands-on experience building models using a state-of-the-art data mining software tool? If you are a practitioner of predictive modeling techniques then this workshop is a “can't miss” opportunity to hear one of the field's expert discuss which algorithms should be used, what are the similarities and differences between algorithms, and what options affect the models the most.
This full-day workshop, held in conjunction with Predictive Analytic World, in San Francisco, Toronto and Chicago conferences will cover all of these topics and more.
Mr. Abbott, President of Abbott Analytics in San Diego, California, has over 21 years of experience applying advanced data mining, data preparation, and data visualization methods in real-world data intensive problems, including fraud detection, risk modeling, text mining, response modeling, survey analysis, planned giving, and predictive toxicology. Mr. Abbot is also a seasoned instructor who explains concepts in language readily understood by a wide range of audiences, including analytics novices, data analysts, statisticians, and business professionals.
.
This workshop dives into the key predictive analytics algorithms for supervised learning, including decision trees, linear and logistic regression, neural networks, k-nearest neighbor, support vector machines, and model ensembles. Attendees will learn "best practices" and attention will be paid to learning and experiencing the influence various options have on predictive models so that attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how the algorithms work qualitatively. Workshop participants will actively be involved in the model building process and will work both independently and in small teams throughout the day. The hands-on experience will be achieved via StatSoft’s STATISTICA software. A license of the software to be used during the workshop will be provided and each participant will need to bring their own laptop to use for the exercises.
