In the recent edition of the Buyer’s Guide published by Scientific Computing and Automation (December, 1996), 48 Math and Statistics Software packages were rated on 26 (0/1) dimensions (each worth 1 point). Some of these dimensions represent support for specific types of analyses (e.g., Experimental Design, Process Analysis, Quality Control), others are evaluative (e.g., Precision/Accuracy, Speed, Variety of Tests). STATISTICA has received the highest total number of points (23) of all 48 compared programs (the total for the closest competitor is 17).

In a review published by DESKTOP ENGINEERING, statistics packages from practically all statistics software companies were rated on 10 evaluative, 4-point dimensions (0=minimum, 3=maximum).
Below is a summary of the results:
StatSoft’s STATISTICA has received the highest overall rating (30, total). Also, STATISTICA is the only product that has received the highest rating on every one of the 10 dimensions!
The 1996 catalog of software and books for quality control engineers, published by the American Association for Quality Control (ASQC) recommended STATISTICA as:
"the hands-down winner of competitive comparisons conducted by independent firms." (page 71).
The article in C'T Magazin (March, 96) is a biannual analytic comparative review, featuring speed and precision benchmarks and detailed analyses of the functionality of all Windows statistics software available on the market. The current versions of:
SigmaStat, release 2.0 SPSS, release 6.03 S-Plus, release 3.3 Statgraphics Plus, release 2.0 STATISTICA, release 5.0 Systat, release 5.05
were compared. STATISTICA/w received the highest overall rating (+10) and the editors concluded that STATISTICA 5.0:
"impresses with its wide range of available statistical procedures which in some areas (e.g., Design of Experiments) leaves the other programs [competition] far behind. (...) The graphics options are also unique. Of all programs compared [in the review] STATISTICA offers the greatest flexibility and customizability of graphs." (page 262).
At a meeting of the Statistical Software Division of the Dutch Statistical Association (VVS) devoted to the evaluation of new Windows statistics software (February 7, 1996), five packages were rated on 30 dimensions (a positive rating on each dimension was worth 1 point). The data for the comparison were collected by an independent member of the Association and they were based largely on information provided by the manufacturers and distributors of the respective packages. Below is a summary of the results:
STATISTICA has received the highest overall rating (29).
A detailed technical review of STATISTICA has been recently published by PC INTERN (a leading German computer magazine). STATISTICA received the highest rating (Bevertung: SEHR GUT), and the reviewer concluded:
"STATISTICA is a mature, comprehensive tool for statistical data analysis. Both in terms of its overall functionality and the ergonomic (user-interface) aspects, STATISTICA simply does not leave anything to be desired. Also, the graphical facilities of the program are of a very high quality. Moreover, the program can be used even by novices." (page 87)
