In a review of STATISTICA 8 by statistician Dr. John Wass, the author has praised the extremely complete set of statistical routines offered, in some ways STATISTICA “seems to be a menu-driven SAS, i.e., whatever you want, it’s there” offering very powerful data mining, customization, programming, and Web-enablement features. Dr. Wass has also praised the quality of the Electronic Manual (help system) stating that it was “found to be especially useful: as it is easy to call up and navigate, it’s very complete, it is well-cross references with active links, it’s very logically arranged, and it has excellent search functions” and that total search times were measured in (very few) seconds. Dr. Wass found that the output from STATISTICA with its wide range of customization options, STATISTICA integration with Microsoft Office (Excel files can be open from within STATISTICA for direct use as input data and output can be sent directly to Word), the user-friendly options for bundling variables, options for By Group analysis, Quality Sixpacks, which offer multiple graphical displays in one view, and the colorful and detailed 3-D graphics, are among STATISTICA’s many impressive features. Dr. Wass walks the reader through an example of a repeated measures ANOVA and takes a quick look at STATISTICA Data Miner and the “astonishing capacity to run many algorithms in series and display quality features for each, thus allowing the analyst to pursue those models with the least error.” The author who has used many earlier versions of the program has notices that many years of feedback from users has been taken by the developers of STATISTICA to flatten the standard learning curve and add many user-friendly features and the review concludes with the bottom line: “This is menu-driven statistics on steroids (lots and lots of steroids!)”
In a review of STATISTICA Enterprise, the Statistics software reviewer for Scientific Computing World refers to STATISTICA 8 Enterprise as “prominent” among “the leaders” in the field, and describes the new functionality that adds a “powerful central actions store from which users across the enterprise” can select data to analyze and procedures to perform. STATISTICA Enterprise offers “extensive automation and centralization of data handling…[which] allow a highly flexible graded information delivery with subtle command and control.” The reviewer mentions the advantages that the new Monitoring and Alerting Server provides for monitoring dozens to hundreds of processes simultaneously which provides “a remarkably rich and intuitive arrangement, mimicking the natural human system of shifting attention focus very effectively.” The review concludes that the test installation easily handed the monitoring of a “multiterabyte geophysical database, continuously updating on a life wide band capture stream, two continents away.”
