Dr. Jan-Ake Gyllander has used STATISTICA in various settings. Although currently retired, he has been a loyal STATISTICA user throughout his career. While attending a recent StatSoft training course, Dr. Gyllander took the time to chat with us.

• Tell us about your career?
I worked with off-shore oil rigs for many years and used  STATISTICA Design of Experiments and Quality Control to  ensure accuracy. I also used STATISTICA while I was a  professor in Theoretical Physics Research at the Lund  University in Sweden.

• What challenges drove you to use STATISTICA?
I had a statistics problem in my research that I was having trouble solving. I was on vacation in New York when I stumbled upon an article about Artificial Intelligence, which mentioned STATISTICA. I purchased STATISTICA and it solved my problem immediately.

• Why did you choose STATISTICA instead of another product?
I started using STATISTICA when version 4 was first released. I chose STATISTICA in part because of the good first impression from their Sales Department. I like that they don’t push you; rather they help you to figure out your needs.

 • What are STATISTICA’s strengths?
StatSoft has an excellent staff. They listen well to their customers. About four years ago I attended a StatSoft training class and made some suggestions to the staff while I was there. It turns out that my suggestions showed up in version 8 the following year!

• Would you recommend STATISTICA to your friends or colleagues?
Yes, I definitely would.
