In May 2010, KDnuggets.com - a data mining portal and newsletter publisher for the data mining community (with 11,000 subscribers) - conducted a survey of its users asking for the tools that they used for real-life projects in the past 12 months.  Many respondents chose general purpose computational and data analysis tools (such as Excel), programming languages, their own custom-designed tools, and open source tools.  The following table shows the results for the 8 commercial data mining packages included in the survey, with STATISTICA receiving one of the top ratings.
