Dr. Rich Marklin has been using STATISTCA in his research at Marquette University for many years. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses and is responsible for ergonomics and biomedical engineering research at the university. Dr. Marklin took the time to share some of his experiences with STATISTICA.
• Tell us about your career. I’m a professor of Mechanical Engineering at Marquette University. My specialty is Ergonomics.
• What challenges did you face that drove you to use STATISTICA? The software that I was using previously required big mainframes and JCL language just to get started. STATISTICA can be used on a PC with no programming.
• How do you use STATISTICA? We use STATISTICA to analyze data from our laboratory experiments. We do various types of experimental designs – repeated measures, randomized designs, etc. It is easy to load the data from Excel files into STATISTICA and then quickly analyze for main effects and interactions, including post-hoc differences between means. • Why did you choose STATISTICA over another product? I chose STATISTICA because the JCL is a big hurdle with other programs and STATISTICA is significantly less expensive.
• Did STATISTICA provide you with the analytic methods you were seeking? Yes, it gave me the solution I needed.
• What are STATISTICA’s strengths? It’s inexpensive, quick, easy to use, and the means of main effects and interactions are plotted automatically
• Would you recommend STATISTICA to a colleague or a friend? Why? I would definitely recommend STATISTICA because of all of the strengths I mentioned previously.
