With STATISTICA, not only do you have the ability to customize graphs and analyses, you can also customize the appearance of the user interface. Changing the background image is an easy way to personalize the appearance of STATISTICA. The default background in version 9 is a gradient, but this can be changed to solid gray, a grid, the StatSoft logo, or any other image file. The position of the background image can also be adjusted. The image can be placed in the upper-left or center, stretched to cover the entire background, or tiled to cover the entire background.

1. Using the classic toolbar, from the Tools menu, select Customize. This menu is always accessible from STATISTICA regardless of what document type (i.e., spreadsheet, graph, macro, etc.) is active. In the following illustration, there are no active windows.

     

2. In the Customize dialog, select the Background tab. 

     

3. The Background drop-down menu contains several commands available for the background. The illustration on Page 1 shows the Gradient background. Following are illustrations showing the Standard, Grid, and StatSoft Logo backgrounds.

4. To use an image other than those shown above, choose Select File from the Background menu to display the Open dialog, where you can browse to the location of the image you want to use. Select the image, and then click OK. A preview of the image will be displayed in the background.

     

5. If you want to change the image, click the Browse button. To change the position of the image, select either Top Left or Center from the Position drop-down menu. The following image shows how the background looks when Tile is selected.

     

6. As selections are made, the background preview will update. Click the Close button in the Customize dialog, and the image is now permanent in your STATISTICA interface background. Of course, you can change the image and/or position at any time.
