I was not a fan of math as a child. And I disliked my statistics classes in college. This seems ironic now because my employer is all about statistical analysis and data mining.
Over my life, I have learned to greatly appreciate statistics. They provide a framework... a structure for understanding the world.
Because the news is full of stories about the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force's new breast cancer screening recommendations, I want to revisit some basic statistics.

According to the American Cancer Society's Breast Cancer Facts & Figures, women who are diagnosed with breast cancer have a relative survival rate of 89% at five years after the diagnosis. The report also lists the probability of developing breast cancer.
