Data Mining / Predictive Modeling

Last week, StatSoft representatives, Gary Miner and Rob Eames, participated in the Predictive Analytics World (PAW) conference in the Washington D.C. area (Alexandria, VA). The PAW event has become the largest conference on business applications of predictive modeling, focusing on talks about applying predictive modeling to business objectives such as fraud, customer segmentation, response modeling and optimization, etc. Gary and Rob report that the current buzz from show attendees is:

Deployment of Models for Scoring. Attendees were very interested in the STATISTICA Live Score solution for the utilization of predictive models across various lines of business applications. Attendees asked repeatedly “How do we take the models we build on historical data and utilize them ongoing for marketing applications, custom...

Recap from Quality Expo 2009

StatSoft participated in the Quality Expo conference in Chicago, IL earlier this month. There were 4 trends from the discussions we had with conference attendees:

1. More than ever, companies are ready to move beyond "desktop" software for quality and Six Sigma analytics. There was a great buzz around the STATISTICA Enterprise/QC software platform for enabling analysts, engineers, and quality professionals, to take the integration of quality methods and Six Sigma into the organization.

2. Attendees are thinking about extending their current quality tools with Multivariate Quality Control (MQC) and Multivariate Statistical Process Control (MSPC), augmenting what they are doing now with univariate Quality Control.

3. STATISTICA Monitoring & Alerting Server (MAS): Companies are very interested in ways to automate the monitoring of unlimited processes and parameters with convenient, configurable Web-based Dashboard summaries.

4. STATISTICA Process Optimization: Companies have an abundance of historical data to use to model processes to determine root causes and relationships, optimize process parameters to meet and exceed specifications, and deploy the models for ongoing process monitoring.

The seminar, Industrial Data Analysis - Quality and Innovations in Practice will be given on October 20, 2009. This meeting is directed to everyone responsible from quality, validation of technological process and following specific standard specifications. Lecturers will describe benefits of using SPC and show step by step example of quality control charts implementation and process optimization.

Also on October 20 is the Applications of Data Analysis in Marketing and Market Research seminar. Lecturers will present some market segmentation techniques, marketing scoring, churn analysis, survey data processing and data visualization.

Data Analysis in STATISTICA 9 seminar will have five presentations on October 21. The goal of the meeting is to introduce the enhancements and new features of STATISTICA 9. Lecturers will also present live analysis including internet store fraud detection with the use of Data Miner Recipes.

The final seminar, Applications of Statistics and Data mining in Scientific and Technology Research, is held October 22. Every year STATISTICA users from various disciplines of science and technology share their experience and knowledge. This year invited lecturers focus on techniques of modeling epidemiological, geological and social data, using statistics to analyze results of empirical research and try to answer question: how does data mining benefit in scientific and technology research.

User-Defined Variability Plots

One of the many useful features available to STATISTICA users is the ability to create customized graphs from a data set and then to save these customized graphs to the Graphs menu as User-defined Graphs. You can use the user-defined graphs facilities to save all of the options specified during the initial graph specification in the form of a new graph “type.” This graph can then be used with the same or a different input data file to create similar analytic or presentation output with a minimum of required input.
